In 1899, the first standard passenger coaches initially destined to be used as "Wagen für den Ausflugsverkehr"("coach for excursion traffic") were delivered to the Royal Bavarian State Railways. Until the early 1960s, they were the backbone of the passenger car fleet of the Bavarian Federal Railways.
